JEREMY RENNER INTRODUCES THE FIRST TRAILER OF NEW COMEDY “TAG”

Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms and Jon Hamm play an impromptu game of tag as they introduce the outrageous official trailer 1 of New Line Cinema's upcoming comedy “Tag.”

Check out the trailer at the links below and watch “Tag” in Philippine cinemas soon.

Based on a true story, the New Line Cinema comedy “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.

For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!”

This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready.

Tag” is directed by Jeff Tomsic (Comedy Central’s “Broad City”), with a starring ensemble cast led by Ed Helms (The “Hangover” movies), Jake Johnson (TV’s “New Girl”), Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Rashida Jones (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me”), Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man 2”), Hannibal Buress (“Neighbors”), with Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver,” TV’s “Mad Men”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker, “The Town”).

The “Tag” screenplay was written by Rob McKittrick (“Waiting”) and Mark Steilen (TV’s “Mozart in the Jungle”), screen story by Mark Steilen, and based on the Wall Street Journal article entitled “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It,” by Russell Adams. The film is produced by Todd Garner and Mark Steilen, with executive producers Hans Ritter, Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter.

A New Line Cinema presentation, “Tag” is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

GIBSON & WAHLBERG AS FATHER AND SON IN “DADDY'S HOME 2”

Press release

GIBSON & WAHLBERG: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON IN “DADDY'S HOME 2”

Mel Gibson plays Kurt, the alpha male father of Mark Wahlberg's character, in Paramount Pictures’ comedy sequel, Daddy’s Home 2 (in Philippine cinemas November 29.)

(Watch the TV spot `Grand-Dads Are Coming at http://youtu.be/j4dMnAPZu70.)

In 2015’s Daddy’s Home, audiences saw sensitive stepdad Brad (Will Ferrell) go to war with badass biological dad Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) for the affections of Dylan, Megan and their mother Sara (Linda Cardellini). Since then, Brad and Dusty have put aside their differences and settled into a working relationship as “co-dads,” but their lives are thrown into chaos with the holiday arrival of their own fathers: over nurturing Don (John Lithgow) and tough-as-nails Kurt (Mel Gibson).

Gibson describes his character: “Kurt’s an astronaut, a hard living, womanizing kind of dude still up to his old tricks even though he’s not a youngster anymore. There’s some fun to be had with the arrested development of this character. He loves his son, but he wasn’t and isn’t the ideal father, and that’s created a pretty dysfunctional relationship.”

Director Sean Anders admits to being flustered having Gibson on set. “Mel’s an extremely talented director and actor, and I really didn’t know what to expect. I felt a little like a dad being intimidated by a step-dad and just wondering what dynamic he’d bring, but as soon as he got here, he couldn’t have been a more funny, warm, affable guy.”

Mel Gibson was perfect for the role of Dusty’s father,” says producer Chris Henchy. “Mel brings a swagger, a bravado, and just an intensity that pairs well with Mark Wahlberg’s. When you see Kurt, you understand Dusty. They’re father and son, and there’s a lot of testosterone and competition. A lot of the conflict and the comedy comes from Kurt reacting to what a helicopter parent Dusty has become,” Henchy says.

On the other end of the parenting spectrum, John Lithgow plays Don, the friendly, affectionate, polar opposite of Kurt’s aloof, lone wolf.

Don has a big heart, and is the kind of guy who will deliberately change planes on a trip so he’ll meet as many new people as possible,” says Lithgow of his character. “He loves to talk, telling these conventionally dull stories that only he and Brad find exciting, jumping from subject to subject and clearing any room he walks into.”

Even though we play complete opposites, all four of us get along great, playing off of each other and knowing exactly who our characters are and how they relate to the others,” says Lithgow. “Dusty begins feeling envious of Brad’s closeness with Don, but our seemingly perfect relationship falls apart halfway through. The bond between father and son is incredibly complicated, which makes for a great story and gives me a lot to play with as an actor.”

It wasn’t until we got everyone in the room standing next to each other that we realized the magic of seeing Mark with Mel and Will with John,” Anders recalls. “Apart from being great actors and each of them bringing so much to the table, they really look like their dads. They even walk a little bit like them. There’s just something about them that works so perfectly.”

In Philippine cinemas November 29, Daddy's Home 2 is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

“ROUGH NIGHT” STARS ROCK THEIR CHARACTER POSTERS

Press release

Columbia Pictures has launched the character posters for its upcoming adult comedy Rough Night, slated to open in Philippine cinemas August 9, 2017.

Take a look at the individual one-sheets below featuring the principal castmembers Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz.

In Rough Night, five friends from college reunite when they rent a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette weekend that goes completely off the rails. Just when all hope is lost, they realize there’s more to the story than they could’ve ever imagined.

Scarlett Johansson plays Jess Thayer, the bride-to-be who has dedicated her life to public service, and has set her sights on becoming a member of the state legislature. “She is definitely a socially conscious person,” explains Johansson. “She’s involved in the community and wants to make a positive difference in people’s lives. That’s why she’s running for state senate.”

Kate McKinnon portrays the Australian Pippa (a/k/a Kiwi), who is Jess’ eccentric friend from her semester abroad down under. “She's the freest spirit there possibly could be,” says McKinnon. “There are no rules with Pippa. But even though she’s a strange bird, she’s also sincere, tender and sweet – she has an absolute joy – which I think is a good combo.”

Jillian Bell plays Alice, Jess’ overly possessive friend who relishes reliving the past. Though the two were very close when they were in college, the passing years have changed that friendship. “Alice thinks she’s still Jess’ best friend,” says Bell. “Alice believes that she and Jess are much closer than they actually are and that they can still have fun times together.”

Frankie, played by Ilana Glazer, is the consummate activist. “Frankie is a hyper-politicized rich kid from Brentwood who thinks the things that she does are very important,” says Glazer. “She forgoes a life of leisure to devote herself to making a difference.”

Blair, played by Zoë Kravitz, is the successful, straight laced, proper and seemingly put-together one of the group. However, outward appearances can be deceptive – there is more turmoil going on in Blair’s life than she would rather admit. “Blair is the conservative one in the group,” says Kravitz. “She’s married. She has a child. She’s a businesswoman. She has chosen a more conventional and materialistic route.”

Rough Night is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

R-18 COMEDY “MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES”

Press release

Unapologetically wild and based on a true-to-life ad gone viral, “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” hits theatres on September 14 nationwide starring Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick.
Photo courtesy of 20th Century Fox

In “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,” Mike and Dave are brothers (played by Devine and Efron),  warned by their family to smarten-up their hard-partying ways before their sister’s wedding in Hawaii, and to bring two respectable girls as dates. After posting an ad on Craigslist, they’re contacted by a cadre of prospective suitors, and they ultimately settle on Alice (Kendrick) and Tatiana (Plaza), whose interest in Adam and Dave extends to little more than the prospect of a free holiday on the islands.  But the girls they finally chose, aren’t quite as wholesome as they expect. And as the real Stangles explain, some artistic license has been taken to turn the film into this year’s hottest comedy.

The other woman in the boys’ life is, of course, their sister Jeanie (Sugar Lyn Beard), whose Hawaiian wedding provides the backdrop for the unexpected girls-gone wild / dates-gone-horribly-wrong hijinks.   But Jeanie’s big day is also ground zero for the guys’ determination that Jeanie be happy—no matter how crazy things get.

“Mike and Dave are party boys with good intentions,” Beard shares of her onscreen brothers.  “Jeanie was like that, too, when she was growing up with them.  They’ve protected Jeanie her entire life, but now there’s a new man in her life, her fiancé Eric, and he brings out her sweeter side.”

A special massage brings out yet another side of Jeanie.  Having been accidently mauled by an ATV driven by…who else?...Mike,  Jeanie is ready for some serious rest and relaxation.  A nice massage seems like the perfect idea, but Alice has something a little more potent in mind for Jeanie.  She makes arrangements with the masseur, Keanu, for him to go the extra mile.

Beard says filming the scene was a highlight for her—not only of the film, “but of my life!” she exclaims with a laugh.  “My bare butt was exposed for almost an entire day’s shooting, and I was being used like a slip ‘n slide.  The scene was a little sweaty, a little oily, but all great.   I was laughing so hard, which was interesting because Jeanie is getting so much pleasure out of the massage, that all the shaking of my body from laughter kind of worked for the scene.”

The brothers are determined not to screw up their sister Jeanie’s destination wedding.  “Mike and Dave love Jeanie and Jeanie loves them, as well,” director Jake Szymanski continues.  “She just wants her special day to go without a hitch.”

“Mike and Dave adore their sister,” confirms Efron.  “Their mantra is: ‘We’re doin’ it for Jeanie!  Everything we do is for Jeanie!’  They protect and love her and have put her on a pedestal.  She forgives them for all the mischief they do.”

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” is now showing in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

“BRIDGET JONES'S BABY” – A COMEDY PREGNANT WITH POSSIBILITIES

Press release

On 28 February 1995, a small, unassuming column by then-unknown author Helen Fielding appeared in the British newspaper The Independent. It was written from the point of view of a single young woman by the name of Bridget Jones (age: 32, weight: nine stone, three pounds) who lived and worked in London. The columns quickly gained popularity, and as Bridget became a household name, in rolled offers for her creator.Within 10 years of Fielding’s first words on her appearing, Bridget Jones had found herself in two international best-selling books and two global box-office hits.

Now, Oscar® winners Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth are joined by Patrick Dempsey for the next chapter of the world’s favorite singleton in Universal Pictures' romantic comedy “Bridget Jones’s Baby.”

After breaking up with Mark Darcy (Firth), Bridget Jones’s (Zellweger) “happily ever after” hasn’t quite gone according to plan. Fortysomething and single again, she decides to focus on her job as top news producer and surround herself with old friends and new. For once, Bridget has everything completely under control. What could possibly go wrong?

Then her love life takes a turn and Bridget meets a dashing American named Jack (Dempsey), the suitor who is everything Mr. Darcy is not. In an unlikely twist she finds herself pregnant, but with one hitch…she can only be fifty percent sure of the identity of her baby’s father.

Fielding never set out to create a role model, and yet in our heroine she crafted someone who had been overlooked by popular culture. This was a woman who, in spite of her independence, was not afraid to reveal her flaws and insecurities.

Save the author, no one knows Jones better than the performer who’s embodied her all these years. “Bridget is eternally optimistic, self-effacing and finds humour whenever facing adversity,” reflects Renée Zellweger. “Tenacious and determined, she will not be defeated. She’s perfectly imperfect, and that’s what people relate to in her.”

At the heart of our protagonist’s quandary is her fear of ending up alone; that translates into independence at a cost. “One of the reasons the first film worked was not just because of the comedy but because people identified with Bridget’s fear of loneliness,” says Sharon Maguire, who bookends the trilogy with her directorial work on this chapter. “It’s a universal fear, and one that’s still a prominent theme in the character’s journey. This is an integral point of access for the audience to empathise with Bridget. The universal undercurrent is that everyone is afraid of being lonely.”

When Bridget was imagined, singletons around the globe realised they were not alone with conflicting aspirations and insecurities. Calorie obsessing, the rules of makeup and shaving, conflicts of the heart and mind, nothing was hidden. “I’m having a Bridget moment” became part of the vernacular, along with “F**kwittage” and “wanton sex goddess.” Bridget optimised a new breed of woman.

When audiences first met Bridget she was 32 years old, and in “Edge of Reason,” she was 34. In “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” she celebrates her 43rd birthday. Despite her success, in the new story, Bridget maintains that wonderful awkwardness that has made her so appealing. “Everybody’s hoped for something and been disappointed. The way that Bridget manages to persevere—despite circumstances that might bring her down—inspires people,” says Zellweger. “She’s suffering the same things we all do and, especially in her private moments, you’re able to connect to her.”

Opening across the Philippines on September 14, “Bridget Jones' Baby” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

ANNA KENDRICK AND ZAC EFRON IN R-RATED COMEDY “MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES”

Press release

It all started with a Craiglist ad that became viral when real life brothers Mike and Dave Stangle are looking for dates to bring to a wedding - sounds crazy but it really happened.  Their story reaches the big screen in the hilarious and  aptly titled “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” starring Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, Adam Devine and Aubrey Plaza.

Photo courtesy of 20th Century Fox
Mike (Devine) and Dave Stangle (Efron) are young, adventurous, fun-loving and, some would even say, obnoxious.  The “some” would include other members of the Stangle family.  So when their sister Jeanie announces she’s getting married, the family holds an intervention, demanding that Mike and Dave bring respectable dates.  To fulfill their family’s request Mike and Dave turn to the best source of decent, respectable girls they can think of: Craigslist.  They place an ad promising that their selected companions will receive an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii and the chance to participate in all of the Stangle family wedding-related activities.

Along with its R-rated humor, “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” has unexpected moments of heart.  Jake Szymanski, who makes his feature directorial debut after helming hilarious short form comedies on “Funny or Die,” says:  “The Stangle family is very tightly-knit, even when they disagree.  They’re very proud of being Stangles, so they’re just trying to have one family event that doesn’t get completely screwed up by Mike and Dave.”

When tuning in to their back-and-forth banter, it becomes clear that the Stangles’ primary interest is entertaining each other.  If anyone else thinks they are funny too, well, so much the better.  Before long the idea of a book emerged.  Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (and a thousand cocktails) continues with the same volley of dialogue and ideas; Mike does a chapter, then Dave does a chapter and so on.

Whatever their differences, Mike and Dave are tight.  “They have a symbiotic relationship,” says Efron.  “They can’t exist without one another.  They’re as much best friends as they are brothers.”

Mike and Dave certainly know how to rock a room, but they’re small-timers compared to their dates.  As background to Alice (Kendrick) and Tatiana (Plaza), director Szymanski observes that they “have a history of misadventures that have taken them around the world.   They can travel around the globe with only a couple of backpacks, and have stories to tell for ages.”

“The characters were great inventions of our writers,” notes Ready.  “Tatiana is a mix of danger and sexuality, and everything she does is pretty extreme.  Alice is a wild child who is always unpredictable.  They are in such different places in their lives, and yet these wedding dates are just what they need.”

The burgeoning brotherly bond between Devine and Efron was facilitated by the opportunity to spend considerable time together on location.   Says Devine:   “Zac and I arrived in Oahu two weeks before production started, and we didn’t know anyone else there.  Who else am I going to hang out with?  So we obviously were just going to hang out with each other every day and that was great planning on Fox’s part, because we became the best of buds.  By the end of production, he says with a laugh, “we finished each other’s sentences in a weird way.”

Rated R-18 by the MTRCB, “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” opens September 14 in cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Movie Review: Grudge Match!

01.13.2014 – It’s Rocky VS. Raging Bull but on a light hearted kind of way. Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro return to one of their roles as boxers. Though the characters are not related to the previous films mentioned it looks like a parody of them.
