The Book Thief trailer revealed via Soundcloud

Audio-distribution service SoundCloud debuted its first-ever movie trailer in partnership with 20th Century Fox via “The Book Thief” trailer featuring the film’s score by John Williams with visuals from the movie.

                It's yet another way SoundCloud, which has 250 million active users monthly, is ramping up its visual presence. Last month, SoundCloud added Instagram integration, allowing users to apply their filtered photos as artwork on their audio players.

                John Williams, who scored “Jaws” and will score “Star Wars: Episode VII” is the composer for ”The Book Thief.” The SoundCloud trailer gives people the first listen of his music.

                Based on the beloved bestselling novel by Markus Zusak, “The Book Thief” tells the inspiring story of a spirited and courageous young girl named Liesel, who transforms the lives of everyone around her when she is sent to live with a foster family in World War II Germany.

                For Liesel, the power of words and of imagination becomes a means of escape – and even joy – from the tumultuous events enveloping her and everyone she knows and loves. She is “The Book Thief’s” heart and soul. 

               

                Indeed, it is heart and soul – as well as triumph and perseverance—that drive the film, which is rich in themes and characters that will resonate for every generation.  A moving and poignant portrait of the resiliency of the human spirit, this life-affirming tale contrasts innocence (as embodied by Liesel) with the pervasive tyranny that marked the times and her homeland.

                “The Book Thief”stars Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, Ben Schnetzer, Nico Liersch and Sophie Nelisse in the title role.  It will open in cinemas February 2014.

The Counselor

When I first saw the trailer of this movie, I never imagined Brad Pitt in a supporting character. Michael Fassbender also proved to be doing other roles outside the sci-fi/fantasy realm. He is reprising his role as the young Magneto in the next X-Men movie.I find the story too disturbing.

 It reminded me of Vanilla Sky which also starred Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz. I really can't say much about this but I prefer another movie whom I also find disturbing. Cameron Diaz is one of the comedians I admire. But she also proved that she could do darker roles which proves that she is a great actress. The Counselor is released and distributed by Twentieth Century Fox.

Movie Review: Grave Bandits

Story: A meteorite crashed in one of the Philippine islands and one of debris turned the inhabitants into mindless cannibals while the others flee. Present day: Two grave bandits trying to flee from the caretaker and chased them along with some townsfolk and stumbled into the island.

Review: I first heard about the movie when I was invited to watch it. I was told that it was in Filipino but it was only when I got to see it that it was already been seen in an international movie festival and it's an independent movie.

What impresses me about the movie besides the action was the situation of orphans in the streets. Also, that it is one proof that we have movies that can be compared with international movies. Here are some of the movies good points. Editing. Story was simple that even if the subtitles are removed, you can still understand it.

The SFX were also good. The transformation of the zombies/undead cannibals are good quality. Reminds me of the old zombie flicks. Even though this movie were shown in movie festivals here and abroad, there are some not-so-good points. There is a sequence in one scene that are not necessary but it is a minor thing.

First Look: “DON’T CRY MOMMY”

My first Korean movie release in my blog.

Korea’s most recent controversial drama thriller, “Don’t Cry Mommy” unleashes a mother’s fury who seeks revenge for her daughter’s tragic death. Starring Yoo Sun as the mother named Yoo-lim whose only reason to live is her daughter who peacefully faces a new life after divorce. Nam Bo-ra takes on the role of her daughter Eun-ah, a teenage girl whose tragic experience with young love triggers her suicide.

                Enrolled in a new school after her parents’ divorce, Eun-ah’s first experience in teenage romance turns into a nightmare as she becomes the victim of gang-rape perpetrated by those she knew in school that triggers her to take her own life. Directed by Kim Yong-Han from a screenplay by Lee Sang-Hyeon, the movie is based on various true accounts and tackles unapologetically the hidden problems in the nation.  The movie also stars U-Kiss’ pop icon Dong-Ho as Jo-han who preyed on the innocence of Eun-ha along with his friends Pak Joon (Kwan Hyun-Sang) and Min-gu (Lee Sang-Min).   

                After all efforts failed to jail the minor perpetrators of Eun-ha’s death, Yoo-lim takes matters into her own hands even if it means breaking the law.  The movie was scripted with Yoo Sun in mind due to her remarkably strong portrayals in her previous films. “There are so many emotional scenes in the movie and sometimes, I would be filming emotional scenes all day long, until dawn.  It was very tiring but I had to keep myself emotionally charged for those scenes,” relates Yoo Sun.  

                Nam Bo-ra who’s known in Korea for being a ‘proper-mannered’ celebrity shares, “The scenes I had to film after the tragic incident were particularly hard for me, as they required a lot of emotional acting.  But I’ve never personally experienced that kind of emotions, so I had to work hard in portraying those scenes.”

                “Don’t Cry Mommy” will open on November 13 in local cinemas  from Axinite Digicinema, Inc.

Forgotten

Reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter to be “stylish and atmospheric” and an “entertainingly old-school horror,” be sure to catch 2012 German Thriller Forgotten, as two childhood friends reconnect while on vacation on the island they grew up in and find out the horrific truths behind the disappearance of an old playmate years ago.  Forgotten will first air on CinemaWorld this November 10, at 9:00 PM.

In the 2013 Argentinian Thriller Thesis on a Homicide, former star lawyer Roberto Bermúdez (played by one of Argentina’s top award-winning actors, Ricardo Darín) now spends much of his time as a respected Criminal Law professor.  One night, a brutal murder is committed right in front of the Faculty of Law, luring the professor into the criminal case.  Roberto becomes convinced that one of his new students, the charismatic and brilliant but rather smug Gonzalo (played by Alberto Ammann), plotted the homicide as part of a perverse intellectual game to put the philosophical legal theories of his own “thesis” into cold-blooded practice.  But is Gonzalo really the killer?  Find out as the case unravels as Thesis on a Homicide premieres on CinemaWorld this November 24, at 9:00 PM.

A new Crime Series to look forward to every Friday night this November is Crimes of Passion, based off novels by Maria Lang, one of the first detective novelists in the Swedish language.  The six-episode series follows Puck (played by Tuva Novotny, voted second most beautiful woman in Sweden by Slitz Magazine), a student of literature; Einar (played by Linus Wahlgren), her tutor turned husband; and Christer (played by Ola Rapace, ex-husband of Noomi Rapace), police superintendent and best friend of Einar, in their quest to catch the killer.  Each episode is a classic “whodunnit” as the viewers follow the lives of interesting characters in an exciting thriller filled with love, sex, intrigue, betrayal, secrets, lies, and death.

All six episodes will be shown on CinemaWorld for Thriller Fridays.  Death of a Loved One will show on November 1, at 11:00 PM, followed by King Lily of the Valley, at 12:35 AM.  No More Murders will premiere on the channel on November 8, Roses, Kisses and Death on November 15 and Dangerous Dreams on November 22, and Tragedy in a Country Courtyard on November 29, all at 11:00 PM.

   Other movies this November for Sunday See The World include Orange Honey, which has won several awards including Best Director, Best New Screenwriter and Best Supporting Actress at the 2012 Malaga Spanish Film Festival and Special Grand Prize of the Jury at the 2012 Montreal World Film Festival, and 15 Years and 1 Day, which won Best Film and Best Screenplay at this year’s Malaga Spanish Film Festival and has qualified as Spain’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 86^th Academy Awards.  Watch the Spanish Dramas on November 3 and November 17, respectively, both at 9:00 PM.
